SA Legion

Did you know that South Africa was the ground zero for the formation of many of the worlds most prestigious veterans organisations and charities?

In 1921 the Royal Commonwealth Ex Services League was formed in Cape Town. The three founders were Field Marshal Haig, Field Marshal Smuts and General Lukin.

The S.A. branch of the British Empire Service League (BESL) changed names several times, but eventually changed to the South African Legion of the British Commonwealth Ex-Service League in 1952.

The aim of the BESL was to provide care, employment and housing and in South Africa the Legion was equal to the challenge and still carries on today.

One of the Legion’s major undertakings is securing pensions for South African post-war disabled servicemen.

Read more about this League and what they do in your country and in the world.
