About Us

The Maritime Club of Port Elizabeth was opened by Admiral Sir Herbert Packer, K.C.B. C.B.E. R.N. on Tuesday the 29th of January 1957. It was established as a Memorial to Maritime Officers who gave their lives during the wars of 1914-1918 & 1939-1945. Committee Members year 1957 : CMDR C.J. Kens Exhibition

Ken Simpson is an engineer. The stories of his life as well as his love and passion to make his own models from scratch made him a popular person to be with at the Maritime Club. Ken has a memory like an elephant and his enchanting stories will baffle you as he tells it in such detail, you feel like living the tale yourself as he dives deep into his past recalling incidents and experiences during his travels across South Africa and around the world. Ken entertained us with his handmade models the weekend of 14 & 15 November 2020, telling us the story behind each of his handmade items - the idea, the experience, the initiative, drawing up the plans and much more... Ken, you and your wife, Susan, will soon immigrate to Ireland. We grew very fond of you and will miss you dearly. Luckily technology makes it easy to keep in touch, but it's not the real thing. Hope you and Susan will live a happy and fulfilled life together with your sons on the other side of the world.
